John Babic arrived in Australia as a teenager and followed his father Vinko into the fabrication trade: a craft built on precision, hard work, and pride in the finished product.
In 1991, John and two partners founded Steel Fab Pty Ltd, completing a wide range of structural steel, staircases, architectural metalwork and balustrades across commercial and residential construction. They built a reputation for quality and reliability that would outlast the business itself.
In 2006, following changes in the partnership, Metal Projects was born: carrying forward the same standards, the same clients, and the same commitment to the work. In the mid 2010s, John’s two sons joined the business. Jason brought with him a background in construction, having worked as a site manager for a commercial builder. Luke joined the business out of school as an apprentice boilermaker, learning the trade from the ground up. Together, the three grew Metal Projects into what it is today.
John now plays an advisory role as the next generation continues to build on the foundation he laid: expanding capability, embracing new technology, and positioning the business to lead in an industry that is constantly evolving. The family ethos remains unchanged: quality work, honest relationships, and a genuine commitment to the people and projects they take on.
